Deciphering the Teaser – DC’s Convergence

Convergence Header
I know that I don’t keep it a huge secret or anything that I’m, at heart, a Marvel fan (really an X-Men fan), but how did I let a huge teaser promotional image like this one pass me by???

Sorry Gordon and sorry all of you!  DC’s Convergence is starting in April 2015 and appears to be the logical consequence of the reinvention of their multiverse — the crossing over of the multiple universes that make up the multiverse.  It sure didn’t take DC very long to get to this point, but I’m certainly up for it!

Before anyone gets to the point of making any backhanded Marvel and DC copying each other accusations, let’s talk about the superpowered elephant in the room.  If you’ve been paying attention, Marvel’s updated Secret Wars, starting off in May 2015, has a VERY similar premise — alternate universes within the very expansive Marvel multiverse come together and cross over with each other.  Which company had the idea first?  We’ll never know and, in my opinion, it doesn’t really matter.  If you’re a fan of alternate realities like I am, you’re going to (hopefully) have a great time next spring/summer.  And if you hate this conceit, you’re going to save a TON of money in not buying all this.

Deciphering the Teaser – The Battleworld Map

Battleworld Map Header
Man, Marvel is just CRANKING out the teasers for Spring 2015’s Secret Wars, huh?  We recently did a breakdown of some of these assembled “countries” based on their video teaser — but this was only the tip of the proverbial iceberg!  Marvel’s newest teaser shows that there are 40 areas on the Battleworld map (we guessed right — good counting, us!).  We knew 14 of them before (15 total realities) and now Marvel has given us the mysterious names of all these places.  Now, none of these names are the “real” names of the realities though, so with the exception of the previously confirmed locations, this is all conjecture and assumptions.  Here we go!

Deciphering the Teaser – Marvel’s Spring 2015

photoOver the past few weeks, Marvel has been releasing teaser images of past events and crossovers, leading many to think that the comic publisher was planning something big and many more to think that they were losing their minds looking for things to rehash.

Turns out that the former group was right and all these promo images, each with the date “Spring 2015” on them, are tied to the previously released teaser for the new Secret Wars (an image that we dissected previously and you can find here).   Now, with the release of a YouTube video, Marvel has made it clear that each of these images represents an alternate universe or timeline, now all wedged together into the new Battleworld.

So how about let’s go through the images, huh?

Another day, another teaser!  Last time, we tried to decipher DC’s New 52 Multiverse (each of those are separate links — check them out!) and we did a pretty decent job, of course thanks to help from you guys!  At New York Comic Con, Marvel has now released the above teaser (by Alex Ross) for “Secret Wars”, the publisher’s 2015 event in the wake of the current multiverse-spanning arcs in Avengers and New Avengers.  Headed by current Avengers writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic, the event has been clearly marked as a MOICHANDIZING EXTRAVAGANZA, to quote Dan Buckley (Marvel President) — “we’re going to be extending this in a year-long program into 2016 with our merchandising partners, digital partners and other partners.”  Already listed are Hasbro, Gentle Giant, and Hot Topic — get ready for the action figures, guys and gals!

Whereas the original 1984 Secret Wars was about heroes and villains from the main Marvel Earth (called Marvel-616), this teaser promo gives us a clue that this new Secret Wars really is a direct result of the current Avengers storyline — a crossover of Multiversity multiple universal proportions.

SOOOOO for this installment of Lets Try To Figure Out What We’ve Got Here, let’s try to figure out WHO we’ve got here!  As always, we’re more than willing to be wrong — please comment below with your input!  As was said at the reveal, “None of it is random and none of it is brand new.”

Key
After the jump, let’s decode it!

New DC Multiverse – The Multiversal Vibrational Realms

Oh, boy, this thing is not the easiest to read.  BUT, of course we’re going to give it try, right?  If you’ve got ANY clue as to what the missing words are supposed to be, PLEASE leave a comment below — let’s work together and get this thing!

First off, let’s take care of the left column, titled…

New DC Multiverse

Holy cow — this is now a thing.  Finally, nearly 30 years after the destruction of the DC Multiverse in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Grant Morrison’s long awaited Multiversity is coming to the comics page next month.  EW.com has released a preview of the new DC multiverse in advance of the formal San Diego Comic Con panel later today:

Not that I’m the biggest Morrison lover on the planet, but when the guy goes for something, he REALLY GOES FOR SOMETHING.  I’m going to try to decipher some of this stuff (the image isn’t the clearest), but in short, there are 45 known alternate Earths with 7 question mark worlds (adding up that good-ol’ 52 number that DC loves so much).   Past the speed force wall, there are 8 worlds (including Apokolips, supporting that there really is only one Darkseid and the like), 4 of which lead past the Source Wall — Heaven, Hell, Underworld, and Skyland (which is a thing I have NO clue what it is).

I’m going to try to figure out what some of the text says and see if the images on the alternate Earths lend some clues to their identities.

Deciphering The Teaser – It’s The Loneliest Number

FirstI have no clue what this teaser, released from Marvel today, is actually teasing.  A new comic featuring a mish-mash of all of Marvel’s characters?  A line-wide revamping of the books (only months after the last one) following the events of the NEXT BIG THING! Age of Ultron?  A staked claim on internet message boards world wide?  Any thoughts?

Maybe I’m getting old, but these teasers just exhaust me…
